The search for the perfect slice is a life-long endeavor for many pizza lovers.

But in the Gettysburg area, they can get pretty close to reaching that goal at Deliso.

Stashed behind a Suzi Suds car wash on Biglerville Road, Deliso offers pizza, pasta, subs, salads and even tiramisu and gelato for dessert.

Many of the evening regulars opt for the spaghetti and meat sauce, said owner Kathleen Marinelli.

She and her husband, Leonardo, opened the restaurant in May 1995. The couple has always been involved in the restaurant business specifically making pizzas.

Deliso is decked out in bright reds and yellows and the walls are covered with metal beer signs. Deliso also offers a vast selection of six packs of beers to go.

For lunch, there are seven combo specials including; a chicken Caesar salad, six chicken wings, fish sandwich, cheeseburger deluxe, two slices of cheese pizza, half a turkey sub or a mini boli. All of the combos come with a small drink and are under $6, except for the salad which is $6.40.

I opted for the two slices of cheese pizza combo for $3.29, and added mushrooms for 35 cents.

With some places I've been for a pizza lunch, the employees take a slice that's been sitting under a lamp for a while and reheat it for you. But Leonardo made a fresh cheese pizza and put mushrooms on my two slices.

And we're not talking about a few strategically placed mushrooms. The cheese was barely visible under the top layer of topping.

The slices were so big that I had to use a fork and knife to get through the first half so that I could successfully fold them to a manageable size.

Going back to work was tough after lunch, since I was in a food coma and my dining partner was trying to convince me to order a six-pack to go.

Deliso has a Tuesday special - $6.99 for a large cheese pizza- and a everyday special of two large cheese pizzas for $15.99.

So next time I'm in Gettysburg and craving a slice, I know where I'll be. The Marinellis will be there too, since they work every day except Mondays.
